The Karlicek Duo, formed by Czech brothers Petr Karlicek (piano) and Josef Karlicek (cello), combines deep musical understanding, technical mastery, and genuine emotion to create performances that both move and inspire.
Founded in 1984, the Karlicek Duo has established itself as a distinguished ensemble in the field of chamber music.
They refined their artistic collaboration at the Sándor Végh Chamber Music Academy in Prague, studying with K. Hashimoto, M. Bourque, A. Lonquich and Ch. A. Linale. Additional inspiration came from members of the Smetana Quartet, whose chamber music tradition significantly shaped their musical development.
In 1995, the duo received the B. Martinů Prize as well as the Special Award of the Czech music magazine Hudební rozhledy in recognition of their outstanding interpretation.
A major milestone in their international career was their debut recital in 2008 at Casals Hall in Tokyo. This was followed by regular invitations to Japan, with performances at prestigious venues such as Suntory Hall, Ohga Hall and Harmony Hall.
The duo has also released acclaimed recordings with the Japanese label NAMI Records.
With artistic depth, refined technique and exceptional musical sensitivity, the Karlicek Duo continues to inspire audiences on international stages.
