Martin Karlíček is an internationally active pianist, teacher, and lecturer, performing across Europe, North America, and Japan.
His repertoire spans solo and chamber music, with a particular focus on works by Smetana, Martinů, Janáček, Bartók, Liszt, and Prokofiev, alongside contemporary music.
His recordings include a broad range of repertoire, among them the complete piano works of Andrew Yin Svoboda. His interpretation of Janáček’s piano music has been noted by critics, and further recordings have received recognition in international music publications. Chamber music forms a central part of his work.
He is the founder of Duo Ventapane and Trio Valdstyn, and co-founder of the Westmount Chamber Music Workshop as well as the concert series Karlíček Sequenza. Karlíček studied at the Conservatory in Plzeň, the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, the Utrecht Conservatory, and McGill University. He has received prizes at international competitions, including the Bedřich Smetana International Piano Competition.
He is currently on the faculty of the Schulich School of Music of McGill University, where he teaches piano and chamber music.
